Avengers Origins: Ant-Man & The Wasp

Time for another flashback to the early history of Marvel Comics. This time, we meet Janet Van Dyne and Hank Pym. Two tiny heroes, although as time passes, he becomes a very large presence in the form of Giant-Man!

This is their tale. Click this link, or the cover below to read online with Marvel Unlimited.

These two characters play pivotal roles for many years to come, so be on the lookout for posts about them in the future.

Until next time,

X-Men Origins: Colossus

Dear readers,

The man of steel (in a more literal way) is Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin. otherwise known as Colossus or simply “Peter” to his friends especially his long-time on and off partner Kitty Pryde.

Created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum as a part of the all-new, all-different X-Men in Giant-Size X-Men #1, Peter is a Russian mutant who can shift into mutant form where his skin becomes a powerful metallic covering. While he’s been in and out of the various X-books in recent years, Colossus was a main member of the team from his 1975 debut until he faced the Legacy Virus.

Origin is a great summary book, taking us from his earliest days discovering his mutant ability in Russia up to the point he joined the (at the time) new X-Men.

Unlike the other books in the origins series, we really don’t get anything extra about Colossus in this book, so it is a perfect use of Marvel Unlimited to read. Click the image or here to go straight to the issue. For a better selection of Colossus-focused books, check out this online comic shop here.

Until next time,

Avengers Origins: Quicksilver & The Scarlet Witch

Greetings comic book fans,

If you’ve been a fan of the X-Men as long as I have (my first issue was #130, first appearance of the Dazzler, but more on that in a future post), you already know these two mutants. They were part of the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and went on to illustrious careers as heroes with the Avengers in later years. Like many of the characters you’ve read about on this blog, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff have played integral roles in some of the most important events in Marvel history.

It’s Wanda’s utterance of the words “No More Mutants” that brings about the near-total annihilation of the x-gene on Earth-616 and who can forget the House of M, where Wanda’s wish for a “better” world gave Marvel’s superheroes their greatest fantasies come true as Magneto ushered in an era of mutant domination (with the sad side effect of human oppression).

In this Marvel Origins edition, learn how these scared wanderers were taken in by Magneto and how their lives evolved from there.

This is a must-read for Marvel fans, the issue is available on Marvel Unlimited here. Get it while you can!

Until next time,

X-Men Origins: Emma Frost

Greetings comic book fans,
Obviously, I adore Jean Grey; however, Emma Frost has been a close second for a long time! This one-shot issue focuses on the transformation of little mousy Emma to powerful villain leader of the Hellfire Club!

You can read the issue online here. In a future blog post, we’ll revisit some of the highlights of Emma’s life including her involvement in the Dark Phoenix storyline, her reformation and her current place alongside Scott Summers fighting for mutant kind in the wake of Avengers vs X-Men.
Until next time,

UPDATE: The Emma Frost series is pretty good.

Origin - Wolverine's Story Revealed!

Greetings comic book fans,

Thanks to the six-issue, instant-classic masterpiece known as Origin, the story of Wolverine’s early life in Canada (and by early, I mean 19th-century early!!!) was finally revealed to us all. When we first met Wolverine way back in the pages of the Incredible Hulk, all we knew was that this crazy guy in a mostly-yellow costume was a badass dude with metal blades that popped out of the back of his hands.

As you know, Wolverine had long since been unable to remember anything about his past life, and Origin blows the lid off!

You can start reading this classic tale on Marvel Unlimited by visiting this link to get to the first issue, and since the whole story is told in one series, you don’t need a list of links to navigate.

For those of you (like me) who want to hold this book in your hot little hands, click Wolverine: Originto purchase from Amazon. As of this posting, the price for paperback is only $11.65.

There are many other “origin” stories involving Wolverine, so you can look forward to more posts about the man with the adamantium skeleton in the future.

By the way, a version for kids is also available at Wolverine: An Origin Story (Marvel Origin Story)

Until next time,
